Carrie Givens
Carrie Givens has been painting with pastels since 2003. It is the intense colors and different pastel papers that draws her to work in this medium. Before working in pastels, Carrie has worked with colored pencils, oils, watercolors, and the airbrush. Pastels are what she enjoys for now.
It is always a challenge to capture the different textures, light and shadows that are part of this beautiful world surrounding us. She finds the landscape in Santa Barbara county truly inspiring.
Carrie also enjoys traveling to Baja California which can provide a different kind of color palette to work with.
Carrie and her husband own an organic farming business that provide inspiration for her stillife paintings of the vegetables they grow.
She has taken workshops with renowned artists such as: Richard Mckinley, Kim Lordier, Barbara Janieke, Liz Haywood-Sullivan, and Lorenzo Chavez. She has also painted with Ojai artist Bert Collins.
Carrie is a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association, Goleta Valley Art Association, Pastel Society of the West Coast, the Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment, and has won numerous awards for her colorful pastel paintings.
Now a member of the Oak Group, it is a huge honor to be part of this group which she will be able to continue painting for the preservation of the landscapes we all love.
Carrie’s work can be seen at Gallery Los Olivos, or you can visit her website.
